International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing 2001 - 2004,
the SA Sailing prescription thereto, the relevant Class Rules the Notice of
Regatta and the Sailing Instructions.
I am competent to handle a yacht in
adverse weather conditions. I confirm
that I am fully aware of the SA Sailing and Class Rules and Regulations
governing the wearing and/or carrying of safety equipment in the yacht and that
the yacht entered complies with the minimum buoyancy requirements.
LIABILITY: I agree that competitors
sail entirely at their own risk, and agree that none of the organisations or
persons concerned in the running of the Regatta accepts any liability for
damages or injury suffered at any time during the period of, and as a result of

Instructions
1 RULES:
1.1 The Series will be governed by the 2001
– 2004 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the South African Sailing prescription
thereto, the respective Class rules and these Sailing Instructions.
1.2 The Notice of Regatta shall form an
integral part of these Sailing Instructions and shall be read in conjunction
with them.
2 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS:
Notices to competitors shall be posted on
the Championship Notice Board near the Sailing Office.
3 CHANGES TO THE SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
Changes to these Sailing Instructions will
be posted at least 45 minutes before the start of the first race of each day.
4 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE:
4.1 All signals made will be displayed on a
flagpole outside the Clubhouse.
4.2 “AP” - Race is postponed. The warning
signal will not be made less than 30 minutes after it is lowered.
5 SCHEDULE OF RACES:
5.1 The first race will not start before
14.00 on the first day of each regatta.
5.2 The
start times for subsequent races will be posted on
the Championship Notice Board except if the Finishing vessel is flying flag
"L" it will indicate the next race is about to start and competitors
should remain in the vicinity of the Start.
5.3 A minimum of 3 races is required to
constitute a Regatta.
5.4 No race will be started after 15.00 on
the last day of each regatta.
6 CLASS / GROUP FLAGS:
Flags allocated to each
class will be indicated on the Championship Notice Board at least 45 minutes
before the start of the first race of each regatta.
7 COURSES:
7.1 The course to be sailed will be
displayed on the regatta Notice Board at least an hour before the start of the
racing on each day.
7.2 All rounding marks will be left to port.
If, however a green flag is flown from the Committee Boat at the start, they
are to be left to starboard.
8 MARKS:
All rounding marks will be described in a notice,
which will be displayed on the regatta notice board at least an hour before the
start of racing on each day.

9 THE START:
9.1 All races will be started in accordance
with RRS 26 System, with classes starting at five-minute intervals.
9.2 The starting line will be between the
mast on the Committee Boat flying the WCSA Burgee and the nearby mark. The buoy
and Committee Boat (start) are marks of the course for yachts starting.
9.3 The order of starting for each class at
the beginning of each session will be posted on the Championship Notice Board
at least an hour before the first race. Subsequent starts will be announced by
the flying of the class flag together with the preparatory signal. The order of starts in races other
than the first of each session may be different from that posted.
9.4 Boats not starting within five minutes
of their start signal shall be scored DNC.
10 THE FINISH:
10.1 The Finish Line will be between the mast
of the Committee Boat flying the WCSA Burgee and the nearby buoy.
10.2 The Finish Mark plus the Committee Boat (finish) are only
marks of the course for yachts finishing. Competitors are prohibited from
sailing through the finish/start line when the blue shape is flying unless
finishing..
11 TIME LIMIT:
Boats failing to finish within 20 minutes of the leading boat in its class will be scored DNF. This amends RRS 35.
12 PROTESTS:
12.1 Protests shall be handed to the Race
Committee within 30 minutes of the last boat finishing the last race of a
session.
12.2 The Race Committee shall have the power to
extend this time.
13 SAFETY:
Competitors should note
that rescue might only be available during races.
14 SUPPORT BOATS:
Team leaders, coaches and other support personnel shall not be in the racing area or within 50 metres thereof from the time of the preparatory signal for the first class to start until all boats have finished or the Race Committee signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment. The penalty for failing to comply with this requirement may be the disqualification of all boats associated with the personnel concerned, or other penalty at the discretion of the Race Committee. Official spectator boats at anchor are an exception to this rule.
15 DISCLAIMER:
15.1 All those taking part in the regatta do so
at their own risk and responsibility.
15.2 The organizing authority and all parties
involved with the organization of the event disclaim any and every
responsibility whatsoever for loss, damage, injury or inconvenience that might
occur to persons and goods, both ashore and on the water as a consequence of
participation in the races covered by these sailing instructions.
