The UCT Frostbite Regatta was held over the weekend of the 16th / 17th August 2003. A total of 45 yachts entered including the 11 entries from the Extra class. The Sprog class had 3 entries from UCT and 1 from Stellenbosch and as such was the only class made up entirely of students. Two races were held on Saturday afternoon in light to moderate breeze. Overnight Craig Sterling and Tom Nugent found themselves tied for first spot in the Sprog class with Toby Runciman and Camilla Thorogood, each having a first and second place to their names. Alan Keen dominated the Laser class with 2 firsts and Steve du Toit led Mark Sadler by 3 points in the extra class. On Sunday morning racing was postponed because of insufficient wind. By 13h00 a light breeze filled through and 2 races were held in very light and switching conditions. Mark Sadler enjoyed the conditions and ended his regatta with 2 first places closely followed by Steven du Toit finishing second in both races. Taariq Jacobs sailed a flawless regatta and finished with 4 first places followed closely by Matthew Shaw 5 points behind. Craig Latigan and Tyron Kerford easily won the Mirror class winning all their races. An enjoyable regatta was held by all, and UCT would like to thank Zeekoevlei Yacht Club for once again lending their bridge boat.
