NOTICE OF REGATTA

2003 NCA STERKFONTEIN
OPEN CATAMARAN CHALLENGE
(INCORPORATING THE 10th HOBIE INTERPROVINCIALS)
HALCAT INTERPOVINCIALS PLUS Dart vs Hobie
1 & 2 MARCH 2003


Entries are invited to participate in the 2003 NCA Sterkfontein Open Catamaran Challenge
to be held on Sterkfontein Dam on 1 and 2 March 2003.

1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY
The organizing authority shall be the Northvaal Catamaran Association under the jurisdiction of Northvaal Sailing Association.

2. CLASSES
All classes of catamarans are welcome.

3. RULES
The regatta will be sailed under the 2001-2004 Yacht Racing Rules of the ISAF (RRS) and the rules of the relevant class associations, unless specifically amended by the Sailing Instructions.

Every owner or skipper shall be a member in good standing of a club affiliated to South African Sailing and their Class Association.

4. ADVERTISING
The regatta will be classified in terms of RRS Section II, appendix I as a category C event.

5. ENTRIES
The entry fee will be :
Single Handed Boats - R100.00
Double Handed Boats - R130.00

The entry fee must accompany the completed and signed entry form and be submitted at the clubhouse on Saturday morning between 08h00 and 09h30.

6. PROGRAMME
Registration, weigh -in and measurement will take place from 08h00 followed by a skippers meeting at 09h30 on Saturday 1 March 2003. The warning signal of the first race shall be at 10h00 on 1 March 2003.

A minimum of 4 races will be sailed and 1 discard will be allowed if more than 4 races are sailed and 2 discards if more than 8 races are sailed. The maximum number of races will be at the discretion of The Race Officer.

No race will be started later than 14h00 on Sunday 2 March 2003.

7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be available upon registration at the Regatta Office.

8. SCORING
The low point scoring system as provided in RRS Appendix A 4.1 of the racing rules will apply.

9. ALTERNATIVE PENALTY
For an infringement of Part 2 of the Racing Rules, RRS 44.2 will apply.
This rule is however modified to a 360 Turns Penalty.

10. COURSES
The course to be sailed will be fully explained at the skippers meeting.

11. ACCOMMODATION
A number of chalets are available for hire and bookings can be made with Theresa Smith on 083 750 4538. Any chalet booked, but not paid for by 09h00 on Saturday 1 March will be re-allocated.

12. CATERING
Catering will be provided from the clubhouse as follows:
Saturday - Breakfast, Lunch & Supper
Sunday - Breakfast & Lunch

Costs, per meal, will be:
Breakfast - R25.00
Lunch - R25.00
Supper - R40.00

Meal vouchers will be on sale from the clubhouse on Friday evening and Saturday morning until 10h00. Only meals that have been pre-booked and pre-paid will be available.

13. ENTERTAINMENT
Entertainment will be provided in the clubhouse throughout the weekend.

14. PRIZE GIVING
Prize giving will take place in the clubhouse as soon as possible after the last race of the regatta.

15. GENERAL
The park entrance is on the road from Harrismith to Oliviershoek and Bergville (R615) approximately 15 minutes from Harrismith. Sailing will take place from the foreshore below the clubhouse. In view of the vast number of boats expected, competitors are requested to off-load boats and remove trailers from the waters edge. There is a nominal gate fee, payable at the resort entrance, although one vehicle per chalet is exempt from this. Camping and caravan sites are available at modest fees. 16. LIABILITY
The attention of all those attending the regatta is drawn to the fact that participation is entirely at their own risk and no responsibility for damage or injury will rest with the organisers or resort or any person connected with the running of the regatta.
