The 2002 Sprog Nationals are over with the reatta having been a raging sucess. 28 Sprog crews enjoyed ten races over the four days of the regatta in wonderful sunny KZN summer weather.
Jof Heathcote - Cause he has won 3 times in a row and it's about time someone did! Consistency paid off and Jof made it 4 times in a row! Good effort Jof! John Wright - Cause he is a wiley old bugger, never slow and always hard to beat! John was on good form this regatta and were it not for one or two slip ups and the small matter of a black flagging he might well have been closer to the gold medal .John ended up third. Graeme Wilcox - Cause he is fast no matter what he sails and he has been in the medals at the last 2 nationals. A tough regatta for Graeme saw him finish well outside the medals. Showed great skill though in pulling off the best pin end port tack start ever seen in a Sprog! Harry Ellens - Much like John Wright, he is never slow and always has a trick up his sleeve. Things didn't go all Harry's way either but he did show some impressive turns of speed, especially on the downwind legs. Mike Robinson - Cause it means he was there and any regatta that Mike's at is a good regatta on and off the water! Sometimes he sails quite quick too! Didn't sail, wasn't even there the whole time but when he was he was in as good vocal form as he has ever been. A particularly good performance at the prize giving was the highlight of the regatta.
