Provincial Stadt 23 Championships - 2002/2003

. Notice of Regatta

Class: Stadt 23 Class.
Organising Authority: Theewater Sports Club under the auspices of South African Sailing (Western Cape)
Venue: Theewater Sports Club.
Dates: 28th and 29th December 2002 and
4th and 5th January, 2003.

1 Notice is hereby given that the Western Cape Provincial Championships for the Stadt 23 Class will be sailed at Theewater Sports Club (TSC) at Villiersdorp on the above dates.

2 RULES:
2.1 All races will be sailed under the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004 (RRS), the relevant Class Rules, and the Sailing Instructions (SI's). This Notice of Race (NoR) shall form part of the Sailing Instructions.
2.2 Every owner and/or skipper of a boat entered in the regatta shall be a member in good standing of a yacht club affiliated to South African Sailing and a member in good standing of the Stadt23 Class Association.
2.3 Every crew member shall be a member in good standing of a yacht club affiliated to South African Sailing. Alternatively, a crew member, other than the skipper, may pay a temporary South African Sailing membership fee for the duration of the regatta of R50.00, to the Regatta Secretary for submission to South African Sailing.
2.4 Each boat entered shall have a valid Stadt 23 Class Registration or Measurement Certificate issued by South African Sailing.
2.5 For the Championship to be a recognised Provincial championships a minimum of eight yachts shall be entered and start in any one race of the contest. (SAS WC Regulation 1 Para. 3)

3 ADVERTISING:
3.1 The event has been classified as a Category C event in terms of RRS Appendix 1 Regulation 20, which shall only apply when racing
3.2 Advertising of a company or a product, which at the sole discretion of the Organising Committee, is in direct or indirect competition with a sponsoring company or any sponsor's product marketed by them, shall not be permitted.

4 PROGRAMME:
4.1 Registration will take place from 18:00 to 20.00 on Friday 27th December 2002 and from 08.00 to 12.00 on Saturday 28th December 2002.
4.2 Measurement of boats may be undertaken during the time allocated for registration at the discretion of the Race Committee.
4.3 The first race will not commence before 14:00 on Saturday 28th December 2002 and racing will not commence before 14:00 on 4th January 2003. No race will start after 16:00 on Sunday 5th January 2003.
4.4 A maximum of Ten races will be sailed. A minimum of four races is required for recognition of the Championship.
4.5 If more than four races are sailed, one discard will be applied. If more than eight races are sailed, a second discard will be applied.
4.6 Details of the social programme will be available at registration but it will basically take the form of a get together on Saturday evening (28th December) at the clubhouse for an evening meal. In addition all competitors will be welcome to join the club with it's usual New Years Eve festivities.

5 ENTRIES:
5.1 Entries, submitted on the Official Entry Form and accompanied by the relevant entry fee of R100.00 must reach the Regatta Office not later than 12:00 on Saturday 28th December 2002. There is no provision for Late entries.
5.2 Entries may be faxed to (028) 8401513 together with a completed deposit slip. The entry fee may be deposited to the credit of Theewater Sports Club's account at ABSA bank, Villiersdorp, Branch code (334 612), Account Number (2770 830 020).

6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
Sailing Instructions will be available from the Regatta Secretary's Office from 18:00 on Friday 27th December 2002.

7 SCORING:
The Low Point Scoring System as set out in RRS A4. will apply.

8 PRIZES:
8.1 South African Sailing (Western Cape) medals will be awarded as follows -
8 or more boats starting in 3 or more races- Gold, Silver and Bronze
7 boats starting in 3 or more races - Silver and Bronze
5 or more boats starting in 3 or more races - Bronze (Ref SAS WC Reg 1 Para 6)

8.2 Depending on finances available medals MAY be presented to the skippers only. If this is the case then further medals may be purchased from the Organising committee for remaining crew members if required.
8.3 Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the Organising Committee.

9 LIABILITY:
The attention of the competitors is drawn to the fact that participation in the Championship is entirely at their own risk and no responsibility for damage or injury arising from participation in the Championship will rest with the Organising Authority, the host Club, the Class Association or any person running the event.
