KZN Lipton Selection Series & PYC Port Captain's Sprints - Sunday 5 May 2002
Sunday saw the final rounds of the KZN Lipton Selection Series sailed in conjunction with the PYC Port Captains Sprints.
With the rescue and committee boat kindly provided by RNYC race officer John Burn set a good length course for the sprint races which took place in 12 to 14 knots of breeze. As always the racing was tight with a slight port bias in the start line making the starts hotly contested affairs. With racing this close the Durban L26 fleet can only be getting better and better!
Three races were sailed in quick succession and there was plenty of place changing within the pack in all the races. The selection series went down to the wire with the top two boats tied on points going into the final race and only one point separating the two after that race was over!
