2002 / 2003 Sailing Season
NOTICE OF RACE
1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY:
Natal Optimist Association, PYC Juniors and HMYC Juniors.
2. VENUE:
Grand Prix I, PYC Durban Bay.
Grand Prix II, HMYC Midmar Dam.
Grand Prix III, PYC Beachsite.
3. CLASSES:
3.1 The series shall be for the Optimist and Laser classes.
3.2 A Novice class for sailors who are in their first year of racing will be provided for. However, eligible sailors will sail the same course as the others.
3.3 Two skippers finishing consecutively from the same school shall comprise a school team. Should there be only one skipper from a school he/she shall be awarded a score of the number of sailors plus one for his/her missing teammate.
4. RULES:
The following rules shall govern the series:
4.1 The Rules as defined in the 2001/2004 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
4.2 The current class rules of the International Optimist Class and Laser Class.
4.3 This Notice of Race.
4.4 The Sailing Instructions (SI) and any amendments thereof.
5. ELIGIBILITY:
Each competitor shall be in good standing with and affiliated to SA Sailing and a member of their relevant Class Association.
6. MEASUREMENT AND REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES:
Each competing yacht shall hold a valid class measurement or registration certificate.
7. ENTRIES:
7.1 Eligible yachts and skippers may enter by completing the sign on form 30 minutes prior to the advertised start time.
7.2 The entry fee for competing yachts is R115.00 for the whole series or R50.00 per racing weekend irrespective of the number of races sailed.
7.3 The entry fee will be payable at signing on.
7.4 The entry form attached to this NoR may be completed at signing on or faxed to The Secretary : Natal Optimist Association, Jenny Larkens on 031 - 763 4699. All cheques to be made out to the Natal Optimist Association.
8. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
8.1 Sailing Instructions will be sent to participants via e-mail.
8.2 Additional copies will be available to each competitor at signing on.
9. SIGNING ON:
Entries for the series will only be considered if the yacht has passed the safety scrutiny process at the venue. Competitors are required to sign on before racing.
10. FORMAT OF THE SERIES:
10.1 A minimum of 12 races, 3 at any venue, is required for the series itself to qualify. A maximum of 18 races will be sailed, 6 at each venue.
10.2 Results from all the races sailed in the series will be used to determine the overall placings.
10.3 Results will be extracted for each sub-series of races sailed at the different venues.
11. SCORING:
11.1 The Low-Point scoring system, RRS Appendix A, will apply.
11.2 One race will be discarded for every five races completed in the series.
11.3 Results will be extracted for School Teams with the final score of the top two skippers of the same school being added together to give the final score for that school.
11.4 Sailwave Software will be used to compute results.
12. SCHEDULE OF RACING:
12.1 Races will take place as follows:
Grand Prix I : PYC, Durban Bay : 2nd & 3rd November 2002
Grand Prix II : HMYC, Midmar Dam : 30th November & 1st December 2002
Grand Prix III : PYC, Beachsite : Date to be finalised (18 & 19 Jan 2003??)
12.2 Race start times are not before 10h00 on the Saturday.
12.2 The last race on any Sunday will not start after 15h45.
13. SAFETY:
13.1 Each boat shall comply with the safety requirements for its class.
13.2 The wearing of a buoyancy aid at all times while afloat is compulsory.
13.3 A safety sign on/sign off system will be applied as specified in the Sailing Instructions.
14. LIABILITY:
14.1 All competitors compete entirely at their own risk.
14.2 The organizing authority and any other party involved in the organization of the event accept no liability whatsoever for any injury, loss or claim, whether personal or material, incurred by or inflicted to participants before, during or after the event.
15. AWARDS, TROPHIES and PRIZES:
15.1 Such presentation will be after the last race of Grand Prix III at the PYC Beachsite.
15.2 Awards will be made as follows:
1st overall Trophy and gold medal
2nd overall silver medal
3rd overall bronze medal
1st U 11 Gold medal plus a pack of sail ties
1st U 13 Gold medal plus a pack of sail ties
15.3 Each participant will also receive a certificate with their final position.
15.4 School placings will be forwarded to the relevant Heads.
