SA Team At 2005 Optimist European Champs - Race Day 1 - No Wind!

The was no sailing today so I asked the Team to write you a report:

We are sharing a coach boat with the Bermudans, also a team of 4 (3 boys and a girl who sailed Europtis last year) so it is quite a nice small bunch to work with. Their coach is Pablo and very professional.

Oh well, Poland is really great and very, very hot, we had the practice race yesterday and I felt pretty good about it, the chop is really massive and confused and so it takes a bit of getting used to.

Today we got up bright and early (8:30) and hurried down to the boat park (long walk!) where we rigged, and then we waited, and waited, with absolutely no wind but it was still a pretty cool day, it was nice to get a break and we managed to meet the Americans, who were quite interesting, and talk some more to the Irish, we even played cricket ( no one knew the rules) and now we’re all psyched up for the first race.

It’s fun in Gdynia the sailing is nice but the wind has been light and the chop is weird. We had no wind today so we didn’t sail. The Irish are cool. At the opening seromony the people forgot to say our names and me and Neil wore one whight and one black sock (I don’t think any one notest)\we had the smallest flag. Every thing is close and there are about six sixty foot trimarans. There was a boat that was spraying water.

Hi SA, it is so cool here in Poland. It is just so hot. Our practice days were cool because we got some sailing in. The wind was not too bad and the chop was very confusing. Our practice race was confusing because every one sailed in any group. The starts are long (no problem). Today was a long and hot day because we didn’t get any sailing in (no wind) but we played a bit of cricket and talked to other sailers. Other wise every thing else is so cool.

Gdynia is not what I expected it is very hot and the water is extremely dirty ,not too cold .The sailing conditions are tricky as the chop is a mess the wind has not been that strong .The security is good as there are many gaurds at the boat park ,and the regatta has been well organized so far .The town is very clean and the people are friendly ,if they understand you .It has been great fun so far.
