The Northern Natal Cat Champs took place at the Albert Falls Yacht Club this weekend. The following report on the regatta came from Alan Barr: "Total entry of twenty-three boats. With boats coming from Dundee, Richards Bay, Durban and of course the local areas. The largest class was Dart with nine boats, with four Hobie 16's, four Halcats, two Tornados, Two Hobie 14 turbo's, one Hobie 14 and one Unicorn. Wind on the Saturday were light, ranging from 2.5 Knots to 4 Knots on average, all though the Tornado's did at one stage manage to have both skipper and crew out on trapeze at one stage. At that time our little wind meter registered a gust of 8.4 Knots. We raced three races on Saturday, and then waited in vain on Sunday for the wind. As per normal, as the racing was abandoned at two o'clock (as per the regatta notice) the wind started to come through at 5 Knots gusting up to 10. The two o'clock stopping time is to allow people who travel long distances to get home at a reasonable time. The regatta was won by Gavin Davies on a Tornado (8 points) followed by Kim Phillips and Kyle De Wet both sailing dart in joint second (11 points). See the full results which have been posted on the Smooth Sailing web site. " As can be seen by the full results a number of sailors were praying for wind to allow for a discard."
