Des Fairbank submitted the following report on the Maritzburg Radio Boat Club's 36 Shipmate Club Championships: "MRYC held their Club Championships for "36" Shipmate class radio controlled yachts on Saturday afternoon. Early Saturday morning the wind was really blowing and it looked as if we would have an exciting afternoons sailing. Unfortunately or fortunately for those still waiting for their "C" sails from an unnamed sail maker the wind dropped steadily through the morning. By the time we arrived at the Duzi around 13h00 it was lower "B" rig conditions or upper "A" rig. Thirteen local skippers registered and the lack of support from the DRBC was disappointing. Sailing started sharp on 14h00 and would have started earlier but for the fact that we waited for the official starting time in the hope of late Durban arrivals but to no avail. The wind had dropped further and was now a good "A" rig wind. We sailed 8 races and finished at 16h15 so those who were stupid enough could go and watch the Rugby. The results after the eight races were:
1st Des Fairbank 7 MRYC welcomed new skipper Graham Keir with his boat that he recently collected from Pretoria. After eventually finding him a frequency slot he went on to have an event free afternoons sail. This was one of two boats which we have been trying to acquire from Pretoria."
