Dear Andrew,

It seems to me that we are past the point of "Should we merge?" The Committes from both clubs have had mandates from their members to merge. We have done the "why" to death - we have to merge or both clubs will die.

The questions now are "how" and "when". This is where the committees get frozen. The problem is that the logistics involved in the merger are huge - the trusts, the buildings, constitutions, funds, changes to building infrastructures, everything. This is not a part time, once a week meeting kind of a thing. The answer is:

(1) Decide on a date to merge
(2) Employee someone (project manager) whose job it is to get this done. Incentivise on completion - probably 30% at least of fee.
(3) The project manager must detail the plan, list pros and cons, ensure members vote on particular directions
AND
(4) FINISH IT

End of story.

Janine
