3 February 2003 Yes I definitely agree. I am a novice Hunter skipper with small kids, and see no way I can enter a serious race, so all I can do is potter around on my own. In a few years when my son will be competent crew and races could maintain his interest, he may have lost interest already because sailing around an empty dam alone is not exciting. Good social events would bring other kids onto the water and maintain his interest, get him socialising with a sailing crowd and there would be a far better chance of both of us becoming competitive. Also how many competitive sailors are lost because there is not enough social scene around for the wives to be interested? Gavin Maxwell
