This sounds like a light has gone on in a dark and ignorant world. I with respect would have thought that has always been patently obvious, then again I did not grow up in a sailing family , rather came in later in life. Clearly as is so often stated racing is intimidating, a racer is seldom born, rather converted from a social sailor. You have stated it very accurately. If only the clubs would realise this more.
