LIPTON CUP CHALLENGE SELECTION SERIES
NOTICE OF SERIES
This selection series is for KZN yachts intending to compete in Lipton Cup Challenge 2003 to be held in Durban during July 2003.
The selection series is organized by the Point Yacht Club (PYC) and the
Royal Natal Yacht Clubs (RNYC) at the request of the KZN L26 Class Association.
1. THE ORGANISING AUTHORITY
The series is organised by the L26 KZN Class Owners Association and hosted by Royal Natal Yacht Club and Point Yacht Club.
2. SELECTION
Competitors are advised that this series has been facilitated by the KZN L26 Class Association with the intention of providing a series for Lipton challengers to compete against one another with the objective of lifting the standard of sailing and securing the best possible representation of KZN yachts for the Lipton Cup Challenge 2003.
It must be clearly understood that the selection of skippers and crews remains at the entire discretion of the individual yacht clubs concerned.
3. RULES
The series will be governed by the 2001/2004 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of South African Sailing (SAS), the Bylaws and Rules of Sailing KZN, the Class Rules 2001, the Notice of Series and the Sailing Instructions.
4. ELIGIBILITY
The skipper of each competing boat shall be a member in good standing of a SAS affiliated club, and each competing yacht shall hold a valid class measurement or registration certificate with the boat weight recorder thereon.
5. ENTRIES
There is no specific entry fee for the series. A race entry fees are R30.00 per boat per day is payable to the host club. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any boat that fails to pay the race entry fees.
Entries shall be submitted on the official Entry Form issued with this Notice to the Chairman - KZN L26 Class Owners Association, c/o Point Yacht Club on or before Saturday 15th March 2002.
The organisers reserve the right to accept late entries.
6. REGISTRATION
Registration shall take place at Royal Natal Yacht Club between 08h30 and 09h00 on Sunday 2nd February 2003.
7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be issued to all competitors upon registration.
8. SCHEDULE OF RACES
Racing is scheduled as follows:

If 10 races are not sailed then racing will continue on:

9. THE RACING AREA
The racing area will be offshore Durban and only races held offshore will be eligible for this series.
10. SCORING
All races sailed on any day shall count individually towards the series covered in these Sailing Instructions.
The Low Points scoring system of Appendix A will apply and 5 races are required for the series to be completed.
When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores.
When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
When from 10 to 12 races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.
11. REPLACEMENT OF CREW
Substitution of the skipper after the first race is not allowed.
Substitution of a crew member will not be allowed without the prior written approval of the yacht club whom the entrant wishes to represent at the Lipton Cup Challenge 2003 as declared on the yacht's Entry Form for this selection series.
12. SCRUTINEERING
All boats shall comply with the L26 Class Rules 2001 and, in addition, shall also comply with the requirements for Category 3 Offshore Clearance in every respect while racing.
Competitors are advised that the KZN Class Association will conduct random scrutineering after racing during the series.
13. DECLARATIONS
All skippers who finish a race shall be presumed to have obeyed all rules and these sailing instructions and it shall not be necessary to sign a declaration.
14. HARBOUR REGULATIONS
Sailing at sea is only possible through the kind offices of the Port Captain and the Race Committee. Any boats sailing at sea must be equipped with all the necessary safety equipment at all times.
The attention of competitors is directed to the Harbour Regulations, which must not be infringed.
15. LIABILITY
The attention of all competitors is drawn to the fact that participation in the contest is entirely at their own risk and no responsibility for damage or injury resulting therefrom will rest with the organising authority, the Class Association, the host clubs or any other person connected with the running of the series.
