At the Laser European Championships which ended in Vallensbaek, Denmark on Saturday the 20th of July, South Africa's only entrant, Gareth Blankenburg suffered a couple of poor results, in the final races, seeing him drop down the overall standings. This is a little bit disappointing since Gareth was well placed to make a challenge for a top three position with only three races left to sail. Nonetheless he still managed to finish in seventh place in the ten race regatta which was won by Swede Karl Sunneson.
