NOTICE OF RACE
THE L26 CLASS KWAZULU NATAL PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
TO BE HELD AT THE POINT YACHT CLUB
From 14TH to 16th June 2003
ORGANISING AUTHORITY
The regatta is organized by the Point Yacht Club (PYC) under the authority and sanction of Sailing KZN (SKZN).
RULES
The Regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in the 2001/2004 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the L26 Class Rules 2003, this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions.
CLASSES
The Regatta is open to any L26 Class yacht with a valid class measurement certificate issued or accepted by SA Sailing the number of which shall be stated on the entry form. A copy of the certificate shall be submitted with the entry form and the original thereof shall be available for inspection at Registration.
ELIGIBILITY
The Owner of a yacht in the L26 class shall be a member of the L26 Class Owners Association and in the event that the owner is not the skipper or part of the crew of the yacht, then in addition to the Owner, the Skipper shall also be a member of the L26 Class Owners Association.
The skipper of a yacht shall be a member in good standing of a SAS affiliated club.
PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of five valid entries received one hour before the scheduled starting time of the first race, at least five finishers in any one race of the series and at least four races completed for the event to qualify as a Provincial Championship.
ADVERTISING.
The regatta is classified Category C in terms of RRS Appendix 1, Regulation 20.
ENTRIES & LEVIES.
Entries shall be submitted on the Entry Form attached to this Notice of Race accompanied by the Entry Fee together with copies of the appropriate registration certificate, to reach the Race Secretary not later than 12h00 on Tuesday 11th June 2002. Entries received thereafter will be subject to a fee surcharge of 100% and will be accepted until the close of registration and entries at the venue. The Entry Fee is R100.00.
REGISTRATION.
Registration for the shall take place at the Race Office at the SKZN office in the main PYC Clubhouse between 09h30 and 12h00 on Friday 13th June and between 08h00 & 09h30 on Saturday 14th June 2002 at which time entries will close.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS.
Sailing Instructions will be issued to competitors upon registration
HAULING OUT RESTRICTIONS
Keelboats will be subject to hauling out restrictions as specified in the sailing instructions.
SCHEDULE OF RACING
The following races maximum of SIX are scheduled on Windward/Leeward and/or Triangular courses Offshore Durban.
Saturday 14th June : Races #1 & #2 ( First start 11h00 )
Sunday 15th June : Races #3 & #4 ( First start 11h00 )
Monday 16th June : Races #5 & #6 ( First start 11h00 )
SCORING.
The 'Low Points' scoring system RRS Appendix A4 will be used.
A minimum of FOUR races shall be completed.
If FOUR races are completed, all race results will count.
If FIVE or more races are completed, ONE race result shall be discarded.
PRIZES, AWARDS & PRIZE GIVING.
The L26 Provincial trophy will be awarded to the overall winners.
Sailing KZN medals will be presented to competitors in accordance with the SKZN Byelaws :-
5 yachts finishing at least two races Gold Medal.
6 - 7 yachts finishing at least two races Gold and Silver Medals.
8 or more yachts finishing at least two races Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
All competing yachts shall comply with their class requirements
Notwithstanding any class rules, all yachts shall carry the following :-
Minimum two litres fresh water
Minimum one serviceable fire extinguisher
Minimum one stout bucket with lanyard attached
One anchor suitable for the size of boat, together with chain and minimum 20m warp.
One approved lifejacket for each member of the crew
One lifebuoy
Minimum 20m towrope
Serviceable inboard or outboard motor.
SCRUTINEERING
All boats shall comply with the L26 Class Rules applicable as at 28th March 2003.
Competitors are advised that the KZN Class Association will conduct random scrutineering after racing during the series.

Participation in this event is entirely at the risk of competitors and no responsibility for damage or injury resulting there from will rest with the organizing authority, class associations, or any persons concerned with the conduct of the regatta
