NOTICE OF RACE
2002/03 HUNTER CLASS PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
TO BE HELD AT ROYAL NATAL YACHT CLUB
From 14th to 16th DECEMBER 2002
1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY
The regatta is organized by the Royal Natal Yacht Club (RNYC) under the authority and sanction of Sailing KZN.
2. RULES
The Regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in the 2001/2004 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), all relevant class rules, this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions.
The Sailing KZN Requirements for Provincial Championships will be applicable.
3. CLASSES
The Regatta is open to all Hunter Class Yachts.
4. ELIGIBILITY
The skipper and crew shall all be members of a SAS affiliated club. Either the skipper or crew shall be members of the Hunter Class association.
5. MEASUREMENT CERTIFICATES
Each competing yacht shall hold a valid class measurement or registration certificate issued or accepted by SA Sailing the number of which shall be stated on the entry form. A copy of the certificate shall be submitted with the entry form and the original thereof shall be available for inspection at Registration.
6. PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
To qualify as a Championship :-
There shall be a minimum of six valid entries received one hour before the scheduled starting time of the first race and at least six finishers in any one race of the series.
A minimum of four races shall be completed.
7. ADVERTISING.
The regatta is classified Category C in terms of RRS Appendix 1, Regulation 20.
8. ENTRIES & LEVIES.
Entries shall be submitted on the Entry Form attached to this Notice of Race accompanied by the Entry Fee of R150.00 together with copies of the appropriate registration certificates, to reach the Race Secretary not later than 12h00 on Monday 10th December 2002. Entries received thereafter will be subject to a fee surcharge of 100% and will be accepted until the close of registration and entries at the venue.
9. REGISTRATION.
Registration will take place at the Race Office at the main RNYC Clubhouse between 08h00 and 10h00 on Saturday 14th December 2002 , at which time entries will close.
10. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS.
Sailing Instructions will be issued to competitors upon registration
12. SCRUTINY of EQUIPMENT
All yachts competing in the Provincial Class Championships shall, if requested, be made available for scrutiny by official Class measurers for compliance with the Class Rules.
13. SCHEDULE OF RACING
The following races are scheduled on Olympic Triangle or Windward/Leeward courses Offshore Durban.
Saturday 14th December : Races 1, 2 & 3. ( First Start 11h00)
Sunday 15th December : Races 4, 5 & 6. (First Start 11h00)
Monday 16th December : Races 7 & 8. (First Start 11h00)
A maximum of TEN races are scheduled and no race will start after 14h00 on the last day of racing
14. SCORING.
The 'Low Points' scoring system RRS Appendix A4 will be used in all classes.
A minimum of FOUR races shall be completed.
If four races are completed, all race results will count.
If FIVE or more races are completed, ONE race result shall be discarded.
If EIGHT races are completed, TWO race results will be discarded.
15. PRIZES, AWARDS & PRIZE GIVING.
The Hunter Provincial Championship trophy will be awarded to the overall winner.
Sailing KZN medals will be presented to Skipper & Crew in accordance with the following Sailing KZN requirements.
6 to 9 Finishers in at least one race Gold & Silver Medals.
9 or more Finishers in at least one race Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.
16. SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
All competing yachts shall comply with their class buoyancy and safety requirements
Notwithstanding any class rules, all yachts shall carry the following :-
Minimum two litres fresh water
Minimum one serviceable fire extinguisher
Minimum one stout bucket with lanyard attached
One anchor suitable for the size of boat, together with chain and minimum 20m warp.
One approved lifejacket for each member of the crew
One lifebuoy
Minimum 20m tow rope
Serviceable inboard or outboard motor.
It is recommended that all yachts carry the following :-
One VHF transceiver with at least channels 16, 12, 6 & 26.
One First Aid kit.

18. LIABILITY
Participation in this event is entirely at the risk of competitors and no responsibility for damage or injury resulting there from will rest with the organising authority, class associations, or any persons concerned with the conduct of the regatta
GENERAL INFORMATION
· A welcoming party will be held at the RNYC on Saturday 14th December at 18h00.
· The Prize Giving will be at RNYC after the last Race and after the last protests have been heard and resolved.
· Participating Yachtsmen and their families are welcome to pitch their camp or tent on the Club Lawns and enjoy the hospitality of RNYC.
· Temporary Walk-on Moorings will be made available for the duration of the regatta.
