The Greenlight L26 Western Province Champs took place in a wide variety of conditions on Table Bay this weekend. Eighteen L26's pitched up to contest the traditional warm-up regatta for the Lipton Cup with most of the favorites on the water for some final practice. The weather conditions only allowed for four races to be sailed with two of these taking place in light air on the first day of the regatta. On day two the air was even lighter and no racing was possible. Yesterday, the final day of racing, saw the wind do just the opposite with fresh to gale force conditions. Once the dust had settled and the racing was over confusion rained over the issue of discards with some debate as to whether four or five races need to be sailed in order for the discard to come into effect. How this can be open to debate is beyond me but without a copy of the sailing instructions to look at I cannot really be sure which way it should go. Trevor Morris, the bowman aboard the sole KZN entry MSC Orion Zephyr reports that the team are happy with their performance in the regatta in which they recorded a score line of 4; 7; 2; 4. In particular the team had been concerned about their performance in heavy air however their fears were put to rest with two good results in the windy races. Not content though the team will be remaining in Cape Town this week where they will be putting in some serious time on the water in their quest to return the Lipton Cup to Durban. The results of this weekends regatta, with and without discard, are as follows:
