BSA Optimist & Laser Champs 2002
Saturday 15 to Monday 17 June
Down in East London the Border Sailing Association Optimist and Laser Champs took place. East London seems to have borne more of the brunt of the westerlies than Durban did with fresh conditions on Saturday and Sunday and sadly no wind on Monday.
A good fleet of Optimists was offset by a poor turnout of Lasers despite at least three Durban boats making the effort to attend this regatta. Sailing offshore the fleet enjoyed some rugged condition on Saturday and Sunday with strong winds and big waves. Monday however failed to produce any wind and racing was abandoned at around 11:30.
Despite there being only two days racing it was a good trip for the KZN contingent with three sailors returning home with medals. The top three places in both classes were as follows:
