14 June 2004

Hi there Andrew

We have in the past tried to keep sailing going deep into July. But experience has shown us that after all Algoa Bay Week regattas:

1. The sailing attendance falls off making the organising of sailing not very fruitful

2 Having said this we have only closed the organised sailing calendar. This dose not mean that every boat owner with a boat cannot go sailing. Only that the sailing calendar is completed!

3 Surely if you own a 250K boat is does not take a sailing committee to get you on the water and sailing.( But this is a perennial problem where yachties seem to want o be spoonfed sailing)

4 Sailing still continues at ABYC on Wednesday nights and Saturdays and Sundays and get on a boat. At least 7 boats out Yesterday alone

5 The boat owners enjoy this break as it allowes them time to, mow the lawn ,paint the house , polish marble, fix and anti-foul boats , so that you can go sailing in the new sailing season.

6 The open O'9'er day this coming Saturday is fun sailing come and join us!!!!

7 In the off season the ABYC sailing committee is looking to organise a race to Port Alfred and back in conjunction with ELYC. ( This was featured in one of my e-mails)

8 Unfortunately June July features some glorious weather not always conducive to full hard stuff racing as the last three windless Wednesday nights proved

9 End July -August -September and deep into October is PEs worst weather season with huge Easterlies and Pomping Westerlies. This leads to any racing organised during these months being very dicey or survival stuff

Thus there is always sailing you've just got to come down and mess around on boats!

Leave the confines of the harbour, the harbour itself is not closed. And rest is free!!!

Yours in sailing
