The following letter was adressed to the editor of Nose Week in response to their expose on the 2003 SAP Cape to Rio Race.

29 April 2003

Dear Sir,

Your editorial of the 15th April refers.

I am aware that David Gant of Boating Partners visited you in an attempt to clarify certain issues relating to this article in Noseweek 45.

Insofar as my name is mentioned,I would like to bring the following to you attention:-

1. Dr.Plattner's yachting manager,Dee Smith,is a close personal friend of mine, and following a request by Bruce Parker-Forsythe,the MD of World Sports Group,I made a call to Dee to ask him whether he could talk to Dr.Plattner regarding an 11th hour sponsorship of the Cape to Rio race to the extent of $150,000.

Both Dee and I did this in an attempt to ensure that there would be adequate media coverage of the event.

There was no discussion of a fee for raising this money. Both Dee and I did this at no cost to anyone and simply as a favour to friends who required assistance.

2. I am not a shareholder nor director of Boating Partners Pty)Ltd nor have ever been.

I am in fact a shareholder and director of SA Boats(Pty)Ltd which is a joint venture between my own yacht brokerage business and Boating Partners. This business markets South African boats internationally and is in no way related to the Cape to Rio race.

"Abromowitz's Boating Partners",as quoted in the article,is most misleading and makes out that I enriched myself through this sponsorship.I have not.

I would ask that you publish this email and,out of fairness, after you have further verified all the facts, that you put the record straight in your next edition.

Thanking you in anticipation.

David Abromowitz.
